Free Price Increase Letter Generator for Contractors

Tell your customers about price increases with a short letter that cites the real manufacturer letters behind them. Pick your trade and brands, add your name and an optional logo, then copy the letter or download it as text, PDF, or Word. You can open it in Google Docs, and you can attach a PriceLetter chart if you want one. Every figure and date in the letter comes from a real manufacturer letter on file (705 letters from 490 brands take effect between May 2, 2026 and Apr 27, 2027); when a letter states no number, the draft says "see letter".

How to tell customers about a price increase

  1. Tell them first. A short letter or email before the new prices show up on a quote beats a surprise on an invoice.
  2. Show the cause. Name the manufacturers and link their letters, so the increase is clearly not arbitrary.
  3. Give one date. Say exactly when your prices change.
  4. Protect existing work. Say what happens to signed quotes and scheduled jobs.
  5. Offer a next step. Invite customers with planned projects to call you before the date.

Frequently asked questions

How do I tell customers about a price increase?

In writing, before the new prices reach a quote or invoice. Keep it short: say what is changing and why, give the date your prices change, say what happens to signed quotes and scheduled work, and tell customers how to reach you. Pointing to the manufacturers' own letters shows the increase is not arbitrary; this generator does that with the letters on file at PriceLetter.

Which Drywall & Interiors manufacturers have raised prices recently?

43 brands have a Drywall & Interiors price increase or surcharge on file taking effect between May 2, 2026 and Apr 27, 2027. The latest: Cemco (Nov 30, 2026, surcharge); CertainTeed (Nov 23, 2026, Up to 10%); Balco (Nov 15, 2026, 2.5% and 6%). 21 of 43 state a number; for the others the draft says "see letter".

Where do the numbers in the letter come from?

Only from manufacturer letters on file at PriceLetter, collected from public distributor and trade-press postings. Each line gives the brand, the change as its letter states it, the effective date and a link to that exact PriceLetter event, which links the original letter. The generator never estimates or fills in a percentage: when a letter states none, the line says "see letter". Confirm the figures with your supplier before you send.

Should I tell customers my own percentage increase?

That is your call; the draft does not include one. Manufacturer increases apply to materials, which are only part of your price, so passing a manufacturer's percentage straight through usually overstates your change. If you add a figure, base it on your own costs.

Is it free, and do you keep what I type?

Yes, it is free, and nothing you type is saved. The letter is built in your browser, or by our server for that one request when you switch trade or JavaScript is off. Copy it, or download text, PDF, or Word. Open in Google Docs copies the letter and opens a blank doc in your own Google account; you can also upload the Word file to Drive. A logo stays in this browser only. Charts are optional PriceLetter graphics already published on the site.
