Manufacturer Price Increase Letters & Notices
Real price increase letters and announcements from 1018 building-product manufacturers: 1903 notices covering price increases, fuel and freight surcharges, decreases and rescinded increases. Below: what a notice contains, recent dated examples across trades, and links to every trade and brand.
What a price increase notice usually contains
- Who and what: the manufacturer (often several brands under one parent) and the product lines affected. Some letters cover "all products", others name families or SKUs.
- The change: a percentage (54% of letters on file state one), often a range or "up to" figure; or a flat surcharge per truckload, shipment or pallet (21 notices state a dollar amount).
- Effective date: the day new pricing applies (97% of letters give one; 36% of those fall on the 1st of a month).
- Notice period: the gap between the letter's date and the effective date. Read the letter for its exact terms, such as orders entered or shipped before the effective date at current pricing.
- Reason and changes: letters often cite raw material, tariff or freight costs. A later letter can revise, postpone or rescind an earlier one; PriceLetter links the two and marks the earlier one revised or rescinded.
