How to tell customers about a price increase
- Tell them first. A short letter or email before the new prices show up on a quote beats a surprise on an invoice.
- Show the cause. Name the manufacturers and link their letters, so the increase is clearly not arbitrary.
- Give one date. Say exactly when your prices change.
- Protect existing work. Say what happens to signed quotes and scheduled jobs.
- Offer a next step. Invite customers with planned projects to call you before the date.

Frequently asked questions
How do I tell customers about a price increase?
In writing, before the new prices reach a quote or invoice. Keep it short: say what is changing and why, give the date your prices change, say what happens to signed quotes and scheduled work, and tell customers how to reach you. Pointing to the manufacturers' own letters shows the increase is not arbitrary; this generator does that with the letters on file at PriceLetter.
Which Insulation manufacturers have raised prices recently?
36 brands have a Insulation price increase or surcharge on file taking effect between Apr 21, 2026 and Apr 16, 2027. The latest: Johns Manville (Jan 11, 2027, 5% – 12%); Owens Corning (Jan 4, 2027); Rockwool (Jan 1, 2027, 6%). 29 of 36 state a number; for the others the draft says "see letter".
Where do the numbers in the letter come from?
Only from manufacturer letters on file at PriceLetter, collected from public distributor and trade-press postings. Each line gives the brand, the change as its letter states it, the effective date and a link to the brand's PriceLetter page, which links the original letter. The generator never estimates or fills in a percentage: when a letter states none, the line says "see letter". Confirm the figures with your supplier before you send.
Should I tell customers my own percentage increase?
That is your call; the draft does not include one. Manufacturer increases apply to materials, which are only part of your price, so passing a manufacturer's percentage straight through usually overstates your change. If you add a figure, base it on your own costs.
Is it free, and do you keep what I type?
Yes, it is free, and nothing you type is saved. The letter is built in your browser, or by our server for that one request when you switch trade or JavaScript is off. Copy the text or download it as a .txt file, then edit it in your email or word processor.
